Disconnected unexpectedly / middle of a session
-
Your will be disconected if you have Call Waiting service and get another call while you are online.
To turn off Call Waiting on your Internet connection, edit the dialling rules in your computer's modem properties. Select "To disable call waiting, dial;" and type: *52 in the empty field next to it (check with your telecommunication service provider to verify the code in your area). Note also if someone picks up the extension while you are online, it could interrupt your session.
-
Ensure there is no automatic disconnect set up on your system. This can be checked in Win 2000 and Win XP in the internet options, select the connection settings then properties, in the options tab ensure the idle time before hanging up is set to never. In Win 95/98/ME this can be found by right clicking the connection in Dial Up Networking and selecting properties, then configure and then selecting Connections and deselecting Disconnect a call if at idle for x minutes.

Cannot detect carrier
-
This error can occur if you are dialling the wrong number. Make sure no area code is used or de- selected.
-
There is a problem at the telephone network.
-
Your modem is unable to handshake with remote modem before allotted time.
Use modem's speaker to listen to connection attempt: Make sure it dials, and make sure you hear remote modem answer tones. Dial number with regular phone and make sure you hear remote modem answer tones (may not work for some internal modems).
Make sure correct phone # is dialed with DUNS - examine Modemlog. (If # dialed is not displayed, adding E1 to extra settings may help. Note that you may have your telephony/connection settings such as long-distance digit is unintentionally being added to your phone number.)
If you hear your modem handshake and 678 error appears at the same time the handshake sound ends, you may need to disable 56k or increase the 'Cancel Call if not connected' time in Modems' Properties under Connection.

There was no dial tone
-
Check the modem cable or the jack point may be installed in the wrong connector on the modem.
Make sure you are plugged in to the LINE jack (not phone) on the modem.
-
Existing telephone line cord may not necessary work with Dial Up modem.
-
If you give your modem an AT&FX1 command, and then a dial command, dial-tone detection will be disabled; if you still do not get dial tone, the modem may not be installed correctly (especially if it is a PCI or soft-modem).

Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the domain
-
The main reason for this is an incorrect username or password. Bear in mind these are both case-sensitive and must be in lower case.
-
Check your connection settings to ensure that WorldNet is set as default and the following settings are NOT selected: LAN settings, automatic configuration script and proxy server.

The modem could not be found
-
This error occurs only in Windows 2000 and XP. The error can occur if the modem is no longer visible to the system, and may be a problem related to the modem driver, or system conflicts that cause the modem to work only some of the time.In some cases, rebooting the machine may "solve" the problem.
If the modem is an external and is not powered on when the system is booted this error may occur: shut-down, power on the modem & re-boot the system.
If the error persists, check to see if there is an updated driver for your modem.
