Broadband Speed Test

Broadband Speed Test

Follow each of these steps below to perform the tests. You may print those results and fax to us or copy the results and send to us via the online form provided. Please include the actual date and time of the tests.

 

Bandwidth Metre

The Bandwidth Metre speed test will check the bandwidth of your Internet connection against broadband and other Internet services.

Please close all programs that are currently running on your computer and turn off all download before executing this test. To check the speed of you connection, simply click on the appropriate test button to continue:

Please note that your connection speed is based on the distance from the exchange or transmitter site. The speed test results will display the adjacent speed to your connection. All results generated are for statistical purposes and cannot accurately determine your full available speed on the Internet.



Tracert

  1. Go to your MS-DOS window:

    Start > Run, then type in "command" or "cmd" to get into the MS-DOS window

  2. On the MS-DOS window, type the following line:

    tracert www.yahoo.com

  3. Hit "Enter" or the "Return" key, and the following information will show up:

    Max Ave Min IP
              1 <xx ms <xx ms <xx ms xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
              2 <xx ms <xx ms <xx ms xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
              3 <xx ms <xx ms <xx ms xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
              4 <xx ms <xx ms <xx ms xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    		  
    Try to tracert other web address e.g. www.yahoo.com, ideally from local websites and websites from different countries.

 

Ping

  1. Go to MS-Dos Prompt as in the last test, type the following line:

    ping www.yahoo.com

  2. and hit "Return" or "Enter" key.
  3. Try with other web addresses.

 

Copy the test result  

It is useful to output the result to a text file and later paste it on to an email for diagnostic purposes. To output the result, type the following in the MS-Dos Prompt programme:

          c:\>tracert www.yahoo.com >> c:\result.txt 

Note: Not all servers respond to Tracert or Ping, this may be for security reasons and not the result of a problem.
